There is nothing magical about weights. Ones muscles and bones DO NOT care if one lifts iron, other people, or ones own body.
The majority of time he lifts less than bodyweight, so if that is bad for him (it's good for him when properly supervised) then gymnastics and wrestling are also bad for him since he'd have to lift bodyweight and more (and actually both are good for him).
